On the first day of school, Superintendent Dr. Vanessa Buitrago—known as Dr. B—returned to the campuses that shaped her own educational journey: Beard Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High, and Modesto High School.
Now, as superintendent, Dr. B walked the same halls she once did as a student—meeting today’s students, reconnecting with former teachers, and celebrating the excitement of a brand-new school year.
This visit marked more than just a first day; it was a full-circle moment about the power of education, community, and building relationships across all 34 schools in Modesto City Schools.
