Major construction is now underway at Grace M. Davis, Fred C. Beyer, and Thomas Downey High Schools, where the campuses have officially broken ground on transformational upgrades, thanks to voter-approved Measure L.
The high schools are moving forward with projects that will expand students' opportunities in athletics, science, and career technical education.
Beyer High Breaks Ground on New Science Wing, Celebrates New All-Weather Track
On Monday, May 19, crews broke ground on an $8.5 million science wing renovation project to modernize 14,500 square feet of space. The project will create larger, brighter labs designed for hands-on experiments and collaborative learning, giving students the tools and space to explore real-world science. Teachers will benefit from the centralized prep rooms, updated storage, and more functional classroom layouts, allowing for greater flexibility in instruction.
A new ADA-compliant restroom building will also be built near the classrooms, improving accessibility and comfort for all.
“These upgrades aren’t just about buildings, they’re about building opportunities,” said Principal Sarah Cox. “Our students deserve facilities that match their potential, and this new science wing will open doors to hands-on experiences that prepare them for college, careers, and beyond. We’re incredibly grateful to our community for supporting Measure L and helping make this vision a reality. It’s something our entire school and community can be proud of.”
The modernization follows the recent completion of a new all-weather track and field facility, which is already supporting student-athletes and boosting campus spirit.

“This is a pivotal moment for two proud Modesto high schools that have served this community for decades,” said Superintendent Dr. Sara Noguchi. “If you want to look back someday and remember what Davis and Downey used to look like, now is the time to take a picture, because it’s all about to change.”
These long-awaited investments will benefit students, staff, and the broader community for years to come.
