Culinary Arts students are educated in Food preparation, Serv Safe, and Culinary Arts text books. These classes are designed for the future chef, the back/front of the house employees in mind, plus job training for the future Food Service worker. The students will gain knowledge in Serv Safe, Weights/Measurements, Knife Skills/Safety, Food Preparation, Salad/Dressings, Soups, and a variety of Cookies, Pies/Desserts, Rolls, Production Skills, Food Costing, Mise en Place, Cleaning and Sanitizing, Identification of Equipment, and much more! The class often uses hands on training so that the students are fully engaged in the learning experience and are actively moving towards a goal, as a team. Our goal is for students to learn a variety of food preparation skills and techniques, and at the same time produce a variety of delicious foods to be served to staff and the community. So in other words this is a very productive class.
Community Classroom is available at 5-10 units for those students that are employed and want to earn extra units toward graduation. Also, this shows on your transcript as another form of work experience, which of course shows employers that you have experience.
Food and Nutrition students will begin work out of the Food for Today text and work-book. They will explore many aspects of Food and Nutrition, and at the same time learn valuable knowledge to help them prepare for future home, work, and life experiences concerning Food and Nutrition.
