At Modesto City Schools, we believe that strong schools start with strong partnerships, and our parents and guardians are the heart of it all. That’s why our Parent Engagement and Outreach team hosted its first-ever Parent Appreciation Luncheon, a heartfelt event dedicated to honoring the families who help make every student matter and every moment count.
Earlier this spring, the luncheon brought together more than 100 parents, guardians, and school administrators for an afternoon of connection, gratitude, raffle prizes, and delicious food. The atmosphere was joyful and welcoming, with one common purpose: to say thank you to parents and guardians.
“This event was about more than just recognition. It was a way to give back to the families who give so much of themselves to our schools,” said Madie Herrera, director of Parent Engagement and Outreach. “We wanted to create a space where parents feel seen, appreciated, and inspired to continue their involvement.”
The celebration, held in mid-May, highlighted families who go above and beyond — serving on school and district committees, volunteering at events, and helping shape important decisions that impact students across the district. Their contributions strengthen our schools and help build a culture of support and success.
“Our vision is to make this an annual tradition,” Herrera added. “A celebration that strengthens the bond between families and schools—where every parent feels truly valued and motivated to stay engaged.”
The response was overwhelmingly positive. Many parents expressed how much it meant to be recognized for their efforts, some after years of behind-the-scenes service.
The Parent Engagement and Outreach team is excited to expand these efforts in the 2025–2026 school year, with more opportunities for families to connect, get involved, and feel appreciated.
